Super mario 3D land
The 3rd and final main series mario game to appear on this list and the 3dss signature launch title. So what can I really say about such an obvious choice? Well for a start it feels less like a 3D Mario game a la galaxy and sunshine and more like a classic 2d Mario game but in 3D..... I should probably unpack that statement a little.
Basically rather than the hub worlds of previous 3D mario games this is linear progress like original 2d Mario bros.
This means it makes the most of classic mario platforming with all the extra bonuses that 3D brings to the table. What I'm trying ( ineptly I admit) to say is that I feel this game perfected linear mario platformer. Don't misunderstand me though Mario 64 and the other overworld mario games are great to ( in fact of all the games on this list it was the Mario games that were hardest to place on it.
There's just something fun about doing the classic airship levels or running past bowser to his inexplicably placed self destruct button in 3D. There loads of fun little gimmicks throughout. You've got your haunted house levels , endless elevator full of enemies levels levels full of platforms that disappear in certain orders or each time you jump, or my favourite shadow mario levels where you must finish a level while being followed by a shadowy mario who is constantly on your heels and copies you movements to a tee.
Plus more power up like the tanoki suit and fire flower in addition to new ones like the boomerang bros suit. Nothing that compares to NSMB DS withs its blue shell and mega mushroom but fun nonetheless
Games like mario 64 or odyssey have some advantage over this this style ( e.g. There's a lot of exploration and collectibles in those kind of platformers while 3D is pretty easy to 100 also 3D land tends to reuse the same handful of bosses and level designs) but 3D land to my mind takes a smaller established formula and perfects it rather than necessarily innovate. It's a simple fun absorbing that may not really try anything new but if you want to just sit back and chill for a while this game is a must

If you read reviews that this game is short and easy, then you’re being mislead. When you “beat” the game, there is a TON of end game that is difficult and requires some backtracking to get more of the large gold coins. I put 10+ hours into fully beating this game and it was really fun. Highly recommend this game to any Mario fan

Born n brought up in India, got mature while living in traditional Indian joint family so my heart lies in unity, festivals, culture, religion, companionship, etc etc etc.
Moved to US 7 years ago and currently on work authorization but on my path to PR.
Yes, US did influence me but didn’t change me. Values, life and relationship goals remain the same.
Road trip , photography, listening old Hindi songs while driving are my pleasure.
